    Research Openings Announcement !

    Master's and PhD research projects openings! Funding available for the students.

    The lab is looking for energetic, hardworking and independent individuals to carry out research in the following areas:

     

    Application of new class of 1.6 um lasers for optical access network applications.

    This is in collaboration with King Saud University (KSU) and hence the student will have a       chance to work there and get hands on experience on the state-of the art equipments of "communication and network" research lab.

     

    Performance improvement of visible/UV semiconductor lasers, exploring novel visible light semiconductor light emitters, for high-speed visible light communications.

    This is in collaboration with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and hence the student will have a chance to work there and get hands on experience on the state-of the art equipments of "Photonics Laboratory" and various other research lab.

    Emad Alkhazraji's two conference papers and Md. H. M. Shamim's one conference paper got accepted in "Asian Conference on Photonics and Communication (ACP) 2019 (http://www.acpconf.org)", scheduled in Nov 2019, Chengdu, China. This is the largest and reputed conference on Photonics and Optical Communications in the Asia-Pacific region with low-acceptance ratio.

    E. Alkhazraji and Q. Tareq's paper got recently published in "Optics Communication" Journal and is available online. The work proposes and demonstrates a tunable beat frequency hybrid dual-injection locked quantum-dash laser for MMW and THz applications.

    Md. H. M. Shamim's paper got recently published in "IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics" and is available online. The work proposes and demonstrated a narrow spaced multi-wavelength green laser diode for visible WDM systems and a two-stage self-injection locking technique to get near single mode visible lasers.

    Md. H. M. Shamim and Mohamed A. Shemis's paper got recently published in "Optics Communications" and is available online. The work compares the self- and external-optical feedback on red and blue visible laser diodes, and their performance in visible light communication.

    Md. H. M. Shamim's conference papers got accepted in "Conference on Laser and Electro-Optic (CLEO -2019) (https://www.cleoconference.org/home/)", scheduled in May 2019, San Jose, California, USA. This is one of the largest and most reputed flagship conference in the area of Photonics with ~3000 attendees and a tough one with very low acceptance ratio.

    Three of ORL lab's conference papers (Emad Alkhazraji's one paper and two papers from the research work by undergraduate students' group) got accepted in 10th IEEE-GCC Conference 2019, scheduled in April 2019, Kuwait.

    Two of ORL lab's conference papers (Emad Alkhazraji's one paper) got accepted in 7th International Conference on Photonics, Optics and Laser Technology - PHOTOPTICS 2019, scheduled in Feb 2019, Czech Republic. This is one of the reputed conference in the area of Photonics.

    ORL's paper got accepted in the in the prestigious journal "IEEE Photonics Journal" and is available online (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8540869). This work developed a model for analyzing two-section tunable semiconductor quantum-dash lasers and demonstrates a tunability up to ~50 nm via varying the absorber-section length.

    Md. H. M. Shamim's paper got accepted in the prestigious journal "Optics Letters". This work demonstrates 7.11 nm tuning window in green color (~520 nm) region using an InGaN/GaN semiconductor laser and self-injection locking technique. This journal rank is in top 4 under Optics category.

This is the largest and reputed conference on Photonics and Optical Communications in the Asia-Pacific region with low-acceptance ratio.

    Md. H. M. Shamim's paper got accepted/published in the prestigious journal "IEEE Photonics Journal" and is available online (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8392668/). This work demonstrates 57% modulation bandwidth enhancement and 9 timed linewdith reduction of the visible lasers employing self-injection locking technique.

    Md. H. M. Shamim successfully defended his M. Sc. thesis. The tile was "ANALYSIS OF SEMICONDUCTOR LASER DIODES FOR HIGH BIT-RATE VISIBLE LIGHT COMMUNICATION"

    Mohamed A. Shemis's paper got recently published in the prestigious journal "IEEE Photonics Journal" and is available online (http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8302594/). This work demonstrates 11 nm tunable self-injection locked quantum-dash laser at ~1610 nm  and reports first mid L-band hybrid fiber-FSO and longest 16 m FSO systems performances.

Shamim's conference paper got accepted in "Optical Fiber Communication Conference" (OFC-2018) (https://www.ofcconference.org/en-us/home/), scheduled San Diego, California, USA, in March 2018. This is one of the largest and most reputed conference in the area of Photonics with ~14000 attendees and a very tough one with very low paper acceptance ratio.

     

    Mohamed A. Shemis's paper got recently published in "Optics Communications" and is available online (https://authors.elsevier.com/a/1W5mP6wPvXNCp). The work compares the characteristics of external and self-injection locking schemes on L-band quantum-dash lasers, and their performance on fiber and free space optical communication.

     

    Emad Alkhazraji attended the 17th Asian Communication and Photonics Conference ACP 2017  (http://www.acpconf.org/), which is one of the renowned conference in the area of Photonics, and presented three papers of the lab. The conference was recently (10 Nov - 13 Nov) concluded.

     

    Emad Alkhazraji attended the 30th International Conference IPC 2017 (IEEE Photonics Conference) (https://www.photonicssociety.org/conferences/ieee-photonics-conference), which is one of the renowned conference in the area of Photonics, and presented two papers of the lab. The conference was recently (1st Oct - 5th Oct) concluded.

     

    Three conference papers of the lab has been accepted in the 17th Asia Communication and Photonics Conference (ACP) 2017  (http://www.acpconf.org/) which is the largest international conference on Photonics in Asia-pacific region, and held annually since 2001. The conference is scheduled on 10 - 13 Nov 2017

     

    Mohamed A. Shemis attended the prestigious conference on laser and electro-optics pacific region (CLEO-PR) 2017 (http://photonics2017.org/index.php), to present two papers of the lab. The conference was recently (31 July - 4 Aug 2017) concluded.

     

     Muhammad Talal secured SPIE Student Travel Grant 2017

    On behalf of SPIE and the Symposium and Conference Chairs of Defense + Commercial Sensing (DCS) 2017, Muhammad was awarded an SPIE Student Travel Grant in the amount of $600 USD to present my paper # 10188-20 at Anaheim, California, USA. This assisted him to travel and present his research at one of the biggest and prestigious SPIE platform.

                 SPIE is an international society for optics and photonics. The Society offers a small number of supplemental travel grants to eligible and selected full time student authors who plan to present their accepted papers at SPIE conferences and meeting. Each grant is intended to partially reimburse travel expenses (airfare, ground transportation, and/or hotel). Grants typically range from $300-$750 USD per international traveler. Moreover, applicants are judged on financial need and merit.
