Saudi Aramco (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) 2003-2009
Responsible for Supporting all vendor products for reservoir modelling, and simulation.
- Water and Oil production and injection optimization using Streamline simulator
- Extensive use of PROSPER, MFRAC, MBAL, GAP and Eclipse Software
- Designed a training program for young engineers to meet short-term objectives to speed up the use and utilization of simulation.
- Taught small course on scripting and programming and their use in reservoir engineering.
- Mentored 10 Saudi engineers on basic reservoir engineering aspects and how to employ it in understanding simulation results
- Assist reservoir simulation engineers build and successfully history match / predict 3-D full field simulation models for KSA reservoirs using Eclipse-100, Eclipse-300, Powers and Streamline simulators.
Achievements
- Identified AinDar Shedgum Injection targets for Reservoir Management Department (RMD) using Streamline simulator
- Completed an integrated multi-disciplinary reservoir study on the Safaniya oil reservoir, which led to surface facility simulation using GAP as part of PE study program
Worked in integrated multi-disciplinary project teams on numerous reservoir studies for a variety of undeveloped and developed oil fields within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) including the following projects:
- Manifa (Carbonate) – Northern Area in KSA
- Nuayyim (Sandstone) – Southern Area in KSA
- Khurais (Carbonate) - Central KSA
- North Uthmaniyah (Carbonate) – Central Ghawar in KSA
- South Uthmaniyah (Carbonate) – Central Ghawar in KSA
- Safaniya (Sandstone) - Largest offshore field in North KSA
A typical study involved the following processes:
- Study proposal preparation and submission followed by a data gathering exercise.
- Develop a congruent understanding of the reservoir characterisation through close co-operation with geoscientists and petrophysicists.
- Complete review of all reservoir engineering data (pressure/well tests/PVT/SCAL) and pre-simulation classical analytical work such as material balance to define the critical parameters for simulation modelling.
- Construct fine grid single well, cross-sectional and sector simulation models to identify the key parameters and optimal grid size for the full field simulation model.
- Build and history match full field simulation model, integrating static and dynamic data.
- Investigate alternate reservoir management scenarios optimising well requirements, plateau length, sweep efficiency, reserves and NPV.
Performed reservoir studies for the under-developed Safaniya Wara Reservoir; an 18 Bstb massive clastic medium oil reservoir with a nominal 40 year production history.
Achievements
- Completed an integrated simulation study to evaluate the performance of proposed complex horizontal wells, ensuring good reservoir sweep and maximum reserves recovery and asset NPV.
- Identified future PVT/SCAL data acquisition requirements.
