Excellence in Participation Award: Attendees of the ICS workshop 1 on "Research Methods" have now a great opportunity to win an award of the "Excellence in Participation" certificate signed jointly by the ICS department and Professor Madhavji. The participant evaluation will be based on the quality and frequency of the interaction exchanges with the guest speaker as well as the quality and volume of "feedback" provided by the participant. Feedback will be gathered in structured templates that will be given out to all the participants at the start of the workshop. Up to five award winners will be chosen and officially recognized in the Department.

It is meant for graduate research students at the masters and doctoral levels and for research assistants in general. Two key things to note:
· Domain knowledge and Research methods
· Deficiency in either of these could lead to problems in the research results
As a researcher you need to know your research business.
In this workshop, we will also discuss the concerns research students may have with their own research. Feedback will be gathered, which will be discussed with the faculty.

Abstract:
In this workshop, an integrated model for a course on Research Methods in Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information Technology will be presented and discussed. Improving graduate students’ research capability is critical for their and the Department’s success. A graduate course on Research Methods is important for ensuring that all students get appropriate training. We will also discuss student feedback (obtained from an earlier workshop with the students) and discuss strategies for dealing with the issues raised.
