Netscape 6

It has been some years since Netscape was the dominating Web browser, and we have all been waiting (too long?) for the version 6 release from Netscape.

With 6, Netscape hopes to eat back some of the 80% or maybe more, Internet Explorer domination.

Version 6 provides powerful support for CSS and XML.

Latest Netscape 4 (Communicator) Release

Netscape Communicator 4.79 is the latest release from Netscape. (November 2001) It includes Navigator, Messenger, Composer, AOL Instant Messenger 3.0, Netscape Radio, RealPlayer G2, Winamp Windows only), PalmPilot Synch tools (Windows only), plus multimedia plug-ins and 56 bit standard encryption.

4.79 can be downloaded from http://www.netscape.com/download/

Netscape Communicator Upgrade Notice

The Netscape Problem

Netscape's 4.x series of browsers have a poor support for CSS and no support for XML.

It took Netscape nearly three and a half years after the release of 4.0, to produce its next generation browser, and this delay has clearly hurt Netscape's possibilities to remain a credible alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

Our Browsers statistics are showing that Netscape is losing the browser war.

Older versions

The oldest versions of Netscape (Netscape Navigator) are no longer in use by any majority of users. Web developers are beginning to ignore them. Their functionality is outdated.

Netscape Communicator 4.0 Was first Netscape version with some support for Style Sheets.

Netscape Navigator 3.0 (Released August 1996). Less than 1% of the Web community use it. Time to upgrade.

Netscape Navigator 2.0 (March 1996). Too old. Avoid it.

Netscape 1.0 (December 1994). Too old. Don't use it.
