Will Internet Explorer rapidly become a major player in the browser market? Follow our week by week statistics of the browser war.

Previous Versions of Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer 5 is the most commonly used browser today. About 60% of the Web community is using it. It has good, but not perfect, support for CSS, DOM and XML.

Version 5.5 (Released July 2000) is the latest release for Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, and Windows 2000. It is included with the latest version of Windows (Windows Millennium Edition). The most important feature is better support for XML/XSL, CSS, printing (print preview) and HTC behaviors.

Version 5.01 (November 1999) Primarily a bug fix for 5.0.

Version 5.0 (March 1999).

Version 4.0 (October 1997) is still used by about 5% of the Web surfers. It has respectable CSS and DOM support, but no XML support.

Older IE Versions

The oldest versions of Internet Explorer are no longer in use by any majority of users. Web developers will ignore them. Their functionality is outdated.

Version 3.0 (August 1996). Now used by less than 0.1% of the Web.

Version 2.0 (November 1995). It is too old. Nobody uses it.

Version 1.0 (August 1995). Does anyone remember it?

IE for Macintosh

Version 5.0 is the latest release of Internet Explorer for MAC. It was released in March 2000.

The latest Macintosh version of Internet Explorer can be downloaded from here.

Version 5.5 for Mac is still in a beta stage.
