Case Study Introduction

previous next

This case study will demonstrate the power of AppML.

To run the examples you will need a standard Internet Browser.

What we will Demonstrate

This case study will demonstrate the power of AppML.

The study will demonstrate how to use AppML to define an Internet Purchase Order Application, based on an existing database containing information about Customers, Suppliers, Products and Orders.

You will use your Standard Browser

To follow the case study, you will need a standard Internet browser.

If you can read this, you already have an Internet browser. There is no need to install any additional software on your computer.

Browser Scripting

The case study application will run in any standard browser.

However, AppML can be much more powerful with some additional client side scripting.

The client side scripting examples in this case study are written for Internet Explorer 5.0.

If you want to experiment with our client side scripting examples, you will have to use Internet Explorer 5.0 or later.

Web Services

This case study uses scripted server side Web Services.

We have used Microsoft's Internet Information Server (IIS) in our case study, but many other Internet servers could have done the job.

The Case Study Database

The Northwind database is a demo database that comes preinstalled with Microsoft Access.

We have decided to use the Northwind database in the case study because it is well known and commonly available.

Summary

This case study does not use any client side components. No installation is needed. If you have a standard Windows installation, you will be able to run the application over the net.

At the server we have used the following software:

  • Internet Explorer 5.0
  • Windows 2000
  • Internet Information Server 5 (IIS5)
  • Northwind Database (Access 2000)
