Be prepared for a long walk up a steep path if you visit the Monastery. It is a long way from the entrance. For the less energetic, you could always take a donkey.

The amazing thing about Petra is that the majority of structures are carved out of solid rock. Not stones cut individually. You can only be astounded by the skill of the masons.
