The figure above shows a typical logical network diagram of a small enterprise that is growing at a very fast pace.  Discuss steps and guidelines in regards to upgrading and deployment of such a network.  How would your network change with each deployment option? What option is best for your new design or upgrade?  Issues you must discuss include, but not limited to:

• Backbone options: Collapsed and Distributed
• Node placement
• Backbone deployment options of Routers, L3 Switching, and VLANs
• Centralized vs. Distributed L3 Switching
• Gigabit Backbone Switches

Whenever possible provide network maps with your discussion.  However, you must provide a network maps for centralized and distributed L3 Switching backbone.  As a designer you must keep good design and engineering practices and must always provide insight into performance-cost tradeoff.
