 EE Graduate Seminar Series (EE 699/599)

The purpose of the EE Graduate Seminar is to acquaint attendees (professors and graduate students) with a spectrum of research in electrical engineering. The seminar topics have been selected to give a mix of subjects, areas, and depth of coverage. Some seminars will be detailed technically and others will provide a broad perspective.

 Thanks to Dr. Ali Muqaibel for maintaining the EE Seminar series and summarizing the different tasks and regulations, most of the details below are taken from his previous seminar coordination.

    For Speakers:   

  • Unless agreed upon otherwise, the seminar should be (30 minutes presentation, 10 minutes for Q& A, and the remaining time for face to face contact and refreshments).

  • The room should be equipped with computer with power point installed and a computer projector. The speaker is strongly advised to test his presentation in advance.

  • Please keep the level of the presentation reasonable. It is fair to assume a background of a BS in Electrical Engineering.

  • If the presentation has been presented in a technical conference or Journal, please modify to suit the audience (Professors and Graduate students from EE and possibly other departments)

  • Please provide a written short biography to be introduced to the audience at the beginning of the seminar.

  • Please send a pdf version of your presentation to be posted in the department website.

    For Registered Students:

  • The first thing to do is to send an e-mail to the coordinator (Dr. Abdelmalek Zidouri) with all your contact information. It is your sole responsibility to check the course website before the seminar day.

  • You must arrive at the seminar room before the starting time. Please do not arrive late. Please be courteous to our speakers.

  • Attendance: students are expected to meet the course attendance objectives. While this is a zero credit course, grades of NP (No Grade Pass) or F (Fail) are awarded. Attendance is recorded each seminar. (NP Does not mean NOT PASS :) )

  • For the part timers, you need to attend at least 60% of the seminars to get (No grade Pass). The seminars schedule  is tentative. I advise you to attend as much as you can in the beginning of the semester.  

  • If you wish to contribute to the seminars you may contact the coordinator. You can contribute by presenting yourself or arranging with your company to present.

  • Seminars can provide excellent opportunity to expose you to possible thesis problems.

  • You are responsible for checking your official e-mail provided by the University. If you prefer to use another e-mail address please make sure that you forward your e-mails accordingly.

  • Should you have any questions regarding this course, the EE Seminar Coordinator.

  • Please make sure that no PhD student is enrolled in EE 599. All PhD students must take EE 699, and they should register for it in the same semester of their comprehensive exam. They also need to present in the EE699/599 seminar series.

Attendance Sheet ]


  • The coordinator is responsible for the students officially registered under EE599. He should follow their attendance and assigned them NP (No Grade Pass) or NF (No Grade Fail) letter grade at the end of the semester.

  • Decide and reserve the room to be used for the seminar.  The usual time allocated by the department is 1:00-2:00PM. During this time no other classes are offered.

  • Make proper arrangement with the Department secretaries to request refreshments for the seminar.

  • Prepare and send the announcement for the seminar a head of time (subject, speaker, abstract, time, location). Technical seminars should be sent to colleges and departments of common interest (College of Engineering Sciences, College of Science, and College of Computer and System Engineering). General interest seminars should be sent to the university at large through the postmaster.

  • Contact speakers from the academia and the industry and provide a variety of topics related to the department interest. Special occasions like conferences and short courses might attract speakers who can be invited to give seminars within the department.

  • Make sure the seminar runs smoothly with good interaction.

  • Provide help and support to the speaker if needed.

  • Update the seminar webpage and promote the attendance and utilization.

  • Coordination for local/international speakers invitations.
