X.         Course Activities to Meet Objectives

A. Attendance
KFUPM rules regarding attendance will be strictly enforced. The grade of “DN” (which is a failing grade) will be given to students accumulating more than 6 (or 9 if the class is 50 minutes) unexcused absences (this grade will be reported immediately). Only official or medical excuses will be accepted (these excuses are approved by the University. Excuses from external institutions/hospitals are not directly acceptable. They must be approved by the University Clinic and Student Affairs). No excuse will be accepted if presented more than a week after the absence. No personal excuses will be entertained and none of these types of excuses should be advanced.

Attendance will have a weight of 5% toward your grade. Attendance will be taken daily.  Students who miss a class without an official excuse from KFUPM will  lose marks.  Each absence will result in a loss of 5 marks out of 100 toward your grade. Being late will also result in loss of marks. Two marks will be deducted from your grade for each late.  Attendance will be taken at the start of the class period.  You will be considered late after your name has been called and/or you do not respond.

CHANGING SECTIONS: Not allowed to switch classes, or exams.  You must submit your homework and assignments in YOUR section only.

            B. Class Participation

Students are expected to be prepared prior to attending class, whether this is by reading the textbook and/or completing the assignment(s).  Students are expected to communicate with the instructor and with one another to discuss concepts and problems.  Students are expected to come to class fully prepared (i.e. bring textbook, pens, pencils, calculator, etc.).

C. Behavior

The rules regarding cheating will be strictly enforced.  Cheating and attempts to cheat will result in “F” in the course (not only the exam), and will be reported to Student Affairs for further disciplinary action that may include dismissal from KFUPM.

D. Note

The rules outlined in this syllabus shall apply to all students, without any exception.  Please save yourself and the instructor the embarrassment and do not ask him to bend the rules just for you.  All students are equal with the exception of their grades that they earn.  Hard working students reward themselves with the grades they earn, and poor students punish themselves with the grades they earn.  Students are encouraged to keep this syllabus with them at all times.  Not knowing is not a professional excuse, when in doubt or if you do not know, please ask.

XI.       Grading Criteria

The grading scale is Standard. The passing grade is 60%.  Students are strongly encouraged to follow up on their grades on a weekly basis to avoid any potential issues.  Students may not contest a grade after a period of one week of issuance; the same applies to attendance.

Course material comes from 3 areas: 1) Textbook readings 2) Class lectures and 3) Articles on Blackboard or Mgt 210 website pages
