SERVICES

Administrative Assignment:

 

Chairman of Chemistry Department from 1992 to 1998

 

The department is one of the major departments in the university with more than thirty faculty members and around thirty staff members.  The department offers two undergraduates, MS and Ph.D. degrees.  Six Ph.D. and about twenty MS degrees during my chairmanship.

 

During the period the department was successful in securing approximately six millions Saudi Riyals for Major instrumentation like elemental analyzer, 500 Mhz NMR and development of various laboratories.  An altogether new industrial chemistry lab was commissioned. 

 

The department was very active in externally funded short courses.

 

Manager of  the Central Analytical Laboratory Section from 1999 to present:

 

The Central Analytical Labroratory Section is one of the four sections of the Center for Applied Physical Sciences of the Research Institute.  The seciton comprises of 9 researchers.  The section is invovled in analytical services which involves wide variety of analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry, atomic and moleculular spectroscopy, and chromatography.  The  activities of the section includes the analysis of synthetic chemicals, petrochemicals, and environmental and geological Samples.

 

Director of the Center for Applied Physical Sciences from January 2003 to present:

 

The Center for Applied Physical Sciences carries out research and development programs in many fields employing nuclear and laser techniques, offers measurement and elemental analysis services, and provided training and consultancy services in related areas.  The Center’s activities are organized in four section which comprises of :

 

·                      Basic and Applied Physics Section.

·                      Laser Research Section.

·                      Analytical Services.

·                      Metrology and Standards Section.

 The Center Comprises of 42 personnels who are researchers and staff.  The Center provides support to the academic departments and to Centers of the University besides providing consultancy services to the companies in the Kingdom.
