Description : Roots of nonlinear
equations. Solution of systems of linear and nonlinear algebraic equations.
Numerical differentiation and integration. Interpolation, extrapolation, and
approximation. Least-squares approximation and regression analysis. Numerical
solution of ordinary differential equations. Introduction to error analysis.
Engineering case studies.
Course
Objectives : After taking this course,
the students should be able to tackle many numerical problems that come up in
engineering applications.
Prerequisites : MATH
201, Computer Programming
Textbook : Cheney and
Kincaid, Numerical Methods and Computing,
Fourth Edition, 1999.
Attendance : University
regulations regarding unexcused absences will be strictly enforced. Also,
attendance affects your final grade.
Homework : HW must be submitted in class, on time.
