Dr. Khalil Harrabi is a Professor at Physics Department, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He received the D.E.A degree (equivalent to master degree) in Solid State Physics, from the Pierre et Marie Curie University of Paris VI, France in 1997, and the PhD degree in Condensed Matter Physics from ParisVI University at Laboratory of Condensed Matter, Physics Department of Ecole Normale Superieure de Paris (France) in 2000. The title of his PhD thesis was �Discrimination between different dissipative modes in Convential & High Tc Superconducting Films�. In 2001, he was recruited as an EU postdoctoral Research Officer, at Low Temperature Laboratory, Department of Physics Royal Holloway, University of London, UK for two years. This project was funded by the EU Research Training Network HPRN-CT-2000-00157, Surface Electrons on Mesoscopic Structures. The subject was making Qubits with electrons on liquid helium surface. Later, he joined Nano Electronics Research Laboratories NEC Corporation, Tsukuba, Japan, as a post-doctoral Research Officer, for more than 5 years. This project was funded by the Japanese Science and Technology Agency (JST), NEC and Riken. The purpose of this work was to study decoherence and demonstrate Quantum Algorithms using Superconducting Flux qubits.
 
He joined KFUPM in September 2009. His areas of specialization is in Superconductivity, thin film deposition, Sample design, fabrication and characterization (experience in the clean room facilities), I-V characterization, quantum object, and solar cells. He was involved in the MIT-KFUPM project and he spent two weeks at MIT Mechanical Engineer Department working on Solar cell design and Inkjet printing process. Recently, he started a challenging new project on organic solar cells with Imperial College of London. Through his academic life, Dr. Harrabi received, Scholarships, at University of Sfax, Tunisia and University of Paris, France. Dr. Harrabi is actively involved in research in the area of materials and quantum bits with more than 55 refereed journal and conference publications (including one in Science & Nature Physics). His work experience includes more than 6 years in the clean room facilities, film deposition: CEA Saclay Paris-France, CEA Grenoble-France and NEC Japan. Dr. Harrabi is the principal investigator of many projects. He was a visiting Scientist to NEC Japan, Physics Department at Ecole Normale Superieure Paris France, LBTS-USC (Santiago, Spain), and Material Science Department Imperial College of London.
 
In November 2012, Dr. Harrabi received his `HABILITATION, HABILIT�T` with `mention tres honorable avec felicitations du Jury` from his home University: University of Pierre et Marie Curie Paris VI, in The Laboratory Pierre Aigrain at Physics Department of Ecole Normale Superieure de Paris.
 
In May 2014, Dr. Harrabi was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor at KFUPM.
In October 2018, Dr. Harrabi was promoted to the rank of Professor at KFUPM.
