The <textarea> tag

Definition and Usage

Defines a text-area (a multi-line text input control). A user can write text in the text-area. In a text-area you can write an unlimited number of characters. The default font in the text-area is fixed pitch.

Examples

This code: Produces this output:
<textarea rows="2" cols="20">
The cat was playing in the garden. Suddenly a dog showed up.....
</textarea>

Required Attributes

Attributes: Values: Description:
cols number The width of the textarea, in characters
rows number The height of  the textarea, in rows

Optional Attributes

Attributes: Values: Description:
disabled disabled Disables the textarea
name textarea_name Sets the name of the textarea
readonly readonly  The user can not change the value in the textarea
wrap soft
hard
off		 Deprecated. Do not use it

id, class, title, style, dir, lang, tabindex
