Abstract - As changes in the global economy drive the need for consumer electronic products at a significant pace the semiconductor industry must find a way to meet these demands while also addressing the challenges of complex design issues and ever shrinking geometries. A review of the EDA landscape, overview of nanotechnology and a discussion of what this means for the industry will be included. Are Semiconductors coming to the end of the line of scaling? Can we overcome the immense challenges of design and manufacturing semiconductors below 45 nanometers? Will nanotechnology be the solution for Integrated circuits replacing CMOS? This talk will review the many contributions of the semiconductor industry that has enabled the use of nanotechnology, provide a brief discussion of the history of nanotechnology starting with the ancient Romans and will take a look at current and future applications of nanotechnologies.
