The purpose of this course is to give the students a good introduction to the fundamental principles of geotechnical engineering. Geotechnical engineering is the branch of civil engineering related to soil mechanics and soil/structure interaction. Geotechnical engineering covers problems in foundation design, the design of earth and rock fill dams, slope stability analysis, groundwater flow modeling, earthquake engineering, landfill design, and more. Almost all man-made structures involve some type of geotechnical engineering problem. There are several undergraduate and graduate courses taught at KFUPM |
