ABSTRACT
The Research Institute of
King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals has
recently embarked on a research program concerning development of a pavement
maintenance management system for road network in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The first phase of this study deals with establishing a system that is suitable
for evaluating road pavements in the Kingdom. This paper presents in detail the
pavement evaluation system currently being pursued at the Research Institute. It
includes measurements of distress severity and density, ride roughness, structural
capacity, and skid-related surface texture. The paper also presents the data
collected on a sample of primary highway network in the Eastern Province
and the data analyses. The measured data have been stored in microcomputer
files to facilitate data processing.
