DR. RASHID I. ALLAYLA

           

Dr. Allayla is a Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals since 1995.  Dr. Allayla has served as the Chairman of Civil Engineering Department for a period of three years (1986-1989) and the manager of Environmental section at the Research Institute of KFUPM from 1993 to 2005.  He joined the university in 1973 as a Graduate Assistant.  In 1980, he became an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering.

            Dr. Allayla attended California State University, where he completed his BS and MS in Civil Engineering.  For his Ph.D. program, Dr. Allayla attended Colorado State University where he earned his Ph.D. in Water Resources Engineering with specialization in Groundwater Engineering.

            Since 1980, Dr. Allayla has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Fluid Mechanics, Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Groundwater Engineering, Flow Through Porous Media, Advanced Open Channel Flow, and Numerical Techniques in Water Resources.  Dr. Allayla has also been very active in research.  He supervised and co-supervised more than 27 MS Thesis and eight Ph.D. Dissertations.  He has also been the Principal Investigator on two research projects funded by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and co-investigator on another KACST funded study.  Because of his outstanding research accomplishments, Dr. Allayla was awarded as the distinguished researcher award in the College of Engineering for the academic year 1989-1990.

            Dr. Allayla has also participated in various professional and community activities.  He has worked as a General Coordinator for KACST Acquisition Center in the Eastern Province.  He has also been an elected member of the KFUPM Council of Deans and appointed to various standing committees at the university. These include: Research Committee, Scientific Council and Community Affairs Committee.  He has also worked as a consultant to the Water and Sewage Authority in the Eastern Province for a period of two years (1983-1985) and in the Ministry of Planning in 1988-1989.

            Dr. Allayla has published numerous papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings.  He has also contributed on a number of technical reports.
