Dr. El-Alfy is currently an Associate Professor
at the Information and Computer Science Department, King Fahd University of
Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer
Engineering, Stevens Institute of Technology (SIT), USA in 2001 and M.S. degree in Computer Science from the same institution as well. He also
received M.S. degree in Intelligent Systems, and B.S. in
Electronics: Computer and Control Engineering (excellent with honor) from El-Mansoura
University, Egypt, in 1994 and 1991 respectively.
Dr. El-Alfy is teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of computer networking, network design and performance evaluation, data encoding and compression, operating systems, client/server programming, web design and engineering, object-oriented programming, and data structures. He has been actively involved in a number of funded research projects and has published a number of technical papers and reports on various research areas in his field.
His current research interests include evolutionary algorithms
and machine learning applications in network-related problems and decision
support systems; network security management; and performance evaluation and
optimization of computer networks. He is a founder and coordinator for the
Intelligent
Systems Research Group at KFUPM.
Dr. El-Alfy is a senior member of IEEE and a member of ACM, ACS, and the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers. He is also on the editorial board of five journals. He has attended several conferences related to his area and is a member of the program committee of a number of international conferences including ICC'11, ADPRL'11, NSS'10, ICC-CISS'10, TrustCom'10, SECMCS'10, EUPS'10, AICCSA'10,AST'10, WiMob'09, NTMS'09,NSS'09,SECMCS'09, GLOBECOM'09-CISS, GLOBECOM'09-CSS, ICICS'09, EUPS'09, ADPRL'09, CEC'09, ICC'09, AICCSA'09, AST'09, ICIT'09, ICICT'09, GLOBECOM'08, ChinaCom'08, WiMob'08, NTMS'08, CSA'08, CEC'07, ICC'07, and ICIT'07. He is also a technical committee member of CIS ADPRL, and ComSoc CISTC & CNOM. He has been listed in the 26th Edition of Marquis Who's Who in the World, 2009; and in the 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century, IBC, Cambridge, UK, 2009/2010, and nominated for inclusion in the forthcoming 2011-2012 edition of Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
