Natural Disasters: Overview

These materials have been developed to take full advantage of the technology that will be available at our institute. From 2006, all classrooms will have a laptop computer which can be used by teachers while teaching. In addition, there will be 11 multimedia classrooms which can be used for regular classes or for student self-access.  These different learning situations are covered by the materials.

Before looking at the individual lessons, please look at the student book. This text contains all the activities covered in Lessons 1 to 4. Students and teachers will need to refer to it whether in a regular or multimedia classroom.

Lesson 1:

Done in a regular classroom. The lesson is started by the teacher activating the tsunami simulation. Activities 1-7 are then taught by using the powerpoint presentation. (Note: There may be problems with the internet connection when doing activity 2. The additional powerpoint presentation can be used instead.)

Lesson2:

Self-access study in the multimedia classroom. In the real learning situation, students will access the material by logging on to WebCT. The quizzes and the assignments will be done interactively. In these sample materials, you can view the quizzes, quiz feedback and assignments, but you cannot interact with them.

Lesson 3:

Student and teachers work together in the multimedia classroom. Once again, in the real learning situation, students will access the material by logging on to WebCT. The assignment will be done interactively.

Lesson 4:

Done in the classroom. The lesson is started by the teacher activating the powerpoint presentation. Class discussion is then based on the pictures in the presentation.
