A Survey by CU&ITC

I would like to solicit your opinion on conducting the following 'mini-workshops' in the department during next semester.

All you have to do is to do some clicking and write any comments in the box provided and press the submit button! (nothing can be easier).

If there is not enough response, we will not proceed any further.

Thank you.

Topic Description
1. A 'fully Automated' Excel Gradebook

This can be two sessions of (1.5 hr each) with a recess of half hour...

  • Show you how to create from scratch and maintain an EXCEL workbook to keep record of your students.
  • Once you have made this workbook all you have to do is to input the grades, absent/present data into the allocated cells. Excel will then calculate the average (at any given time), no of absences accumulated and the letter grade at the end of the semester!
  • You can even ask excel to discard the worst (one or more) quiz(zes).
  • It can assign a DN if the number of absences exceed the limit.
2. How to use WebCT to deliver online quiz and as a student management tool (namely to post class work grades; the advantage over the regular WebPages is that a student can see only his grade, privately)
  • You populate the question databank in your webCT account. And the questions are drawn randomly from this databank and presented to the students.
  • No two student will take exactly the same questions; you can have many items (questions) in the data bank for the same question but with different numbers, and you can have different questions testing the same concept having the same difficulty level.
  • The student can take the quiz at their own time and place, but you will set a time bracket.
  • Cheating can be minimized by assigning regular quizzes (weekly) and setting a not too large a time period to complete the quiz (one whole day perhaps?)
  • The student will know the result immediately. WebCT will calculate the grade and post it immediately for the student to view.
  • THE CATCH IS: You have to prepare a large enough question databank! (this can be a big project by itself).
3. How to make your home page and publish it
