  NON VERBAL Communication notetaking.

 

NON-VERBAL TERMS

·       Hands and arms – KINESICS

·       Standing/Sitting = Posture

·       Eyes – Oculistics

·       Facial movements – smile, frown

·       Physical Appearance – Height, Weight, Age, Gender (M/F), Clothes, Objects (watch, pen, etc.), and Attractiveness (beauty/not beauty)

·       RELATED TO PHYSICAL – Odors/smells (good and bad); cleanliness or not; style; hygiene (the health/cleanliness of all parts of your body)

 

·       Voice – Tone, volume, speed

·       Time – difference between high/low context cultures:                      High = elastic.   Low = fixed

·       Touch – Haptics     (High context = acceptable)  (Low context = not acceptable or more complex situation)

·       Space & Territory – Proxemics (People, Place, Objects set up, distance, relationships)  The higher the context, the closer you can stand to the other person without causing a problem.
