Zuhair Mattoug Asa’d Gasem, Phd

Associate Professor, Chairman, ME Department .

Zuhair Gasem is a Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree (1983-1989) in Mechanical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He earned his Master of Science (1989-1992), Mechanical Engineering Department, from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. and Doctor of Philosophy (1994-1999), Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, USA.

He has experience in sophisticated research techniques and technologies: His research focuses on characterization and understanding of the relationship between microstructures and fatigue (low cycle fatigue as well as fatigue crack growth) and fracture behavior of engineering alloys and composites

Corrosion and environmental cracking of engineering alloys: His interest aims to gain mechanistic understanding of the interaction between a corrosive environment and the crack tip processes that influence the kinetics of cracking in engineering alloys.High temperature corrosion of materials and coatings: His area of interest includes oxidation of alloys, hot corrosion of super alloys, and degradation of thermal barrier coatings.

Corrosion of Metal Matrix Composites: His research in this area focused on characterizing corrosion behavior of Aluminum alloys reinforced with particulates and protection by conversion coatings.
