Syed Sohail Akhtar, Phd

Syed Sohail Akhtar is Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia. He received his B.S and M.S degrees in Mechanical Engineering from NWFP University of Engineering & Technology, Pakistan in 1996 and 2000, respectively. He then received his Ph.D degree in Mechanical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia, in 2009. In 2011, he joined KFUPM as an Assistant Professor, where he has promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2015.

Dr. Akhtar's research areas are applied materials, manufacturing and computational mechanics: Metal forming and other advanced manufacturing processes, surface engineering, laser assisted manufacturing and surface modification processes, material characterization using modern techniques, materials modeling using phase field method, applications of finite element method in multi-physics problems.

He has taught a number of Mechanical Engineering graduate and undergraduate courses including materials science, machine design, manufacturing processes, reliability engineering, probabilistic concepts in design & production, and design & analysis of engineering experiments.                                                   Dr. Akhtar has authored more than 90 archival technical publications, including 70 journal papers. He has published 02 books and many book chapters. He has 03 patents. He has presented many scientific papers internationally. He is a regular reviewer of many international scientific journals.
