Dr. Abdul Khaliq received a Ph.D. in Mathematics and M.Sc.  In Numerical Analysis from Brunel University, UK and M.Sc. in Mathematics from Quaid-i-Azam University, Pakistan. Dr. Khaliq’s area of expertise is numerical analysis and scientific computing, with specialization in the “Development of Stable and Efficient Numerical Methods for Large Scale Systems of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs).” His primary research interest lies at the interface of applied mathematics and computational science, which includes new and robust algorithms using partial differential equations with applications to complex financial and physical systems. In addition, his current research interest includes numerical solutions of Fractional Partial Differential Equations, scalable algorithms in the numerical solutions of stiff stochastic differential equations (SDEs).

 During his 33 years of professional career at institutions of higher educations, Dr Khaliq has compiled a wide-ranging record of research and scholarly activities. He has organized international conferences and has presented research papers at international conferences as a keynote speaker, had a large number of published research articles in highly reputed refereed journals, and his research is frequently cited by the scientific community. He has supervised several PhD dissertations and MS theses.  Currently, he serves on the editorial boards of four international journals and is editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Computer Mathematics.  Dr Khaliq is currently serving as a Professor at the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), USA. He was awarded the MTSU Distinguished Research Awards in 2007 and 2016, Western Illinois Outstanding Faculty Excellence Research University Award in 2002.

Khaled Furati is a professor of Mathematics at KFUPM.  He received his Ph.D degree in Mathematics from Duke University, NC, USA, in 1995 and since then he joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at KFUPM.  He served as Chairman of the Math Department during 2000-2004, Director of Testing and Evaluation Center during 2010-2014, and a member of the Scientific Council since 2016.

Dr. Furati worked on models for two-phase flow in porous media and singular Sturm-Liouville problems.  His current research interests include fractional differential equations and their applications and computational methods.  His current research projects include: fractional order neural networks, asymptotic behavior and well posedness of solutions for fractional differential equations, inverse source problems for fractional diffusion equation, and higher-order numerical methods for nonlinear space-fractional diffusion equations.

Usama AlKhawaja Obtained PhD in 1999 from Copenhagen University/Denmark in theoretical Physics with PhD thesis on Bose-Einstein Condensation.  Worked as a postdoc for 3 years, 1999-2002, at Utrecht University/Netherlands.  Joined UAE University in 2002 till currently.

Current position: Professor and chairman at the Physics department/UAEU.

Research interests:

1.    Nonlinear Physics and applications to optical solitons in fibers and waveguide arrays

2.    Mathematical Physics: Integrability, Exact solutions, fractional derivatives

3.    Bose-Einstein condensation: Collective modes and excitations

Dr. Reyad El-Khazali is an electrical engineer, a researcher, and an educator. Reyad received his BSc in Electrical Engineering from Menoufia University in Egypt, worked for two years in Yarmouk University before he was granted a scholarship from Mutah University/Jordan to finish his MSc in Control Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, USA, and his Ph.D. in Control Engineering from Purdue University, Indiana, USA.  He then returned to work at Mutah University through which he served as a head of the Electrical Engineering Department and served as a member of Mutah University senate and on different committees with different capacities.  He has joined Etisalat University College in UAE in 2000, where it was merged with KHALIFA University in 2007. He is currently an active member of the signal processing research group.

 

His recent research interest is, to just name a few, on the theory and applications of fractional-order control in power systems, chaos, communications, and signal processing, and social studies.  He co-authored a book entitled “Fractal Elements and their Applications” and published over 77 publications in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences.

Dr. EL-Khazali is a member of the editorial board of International Scholarly Research Network (ISRN) Journal, a member of the steering committee of the Fractional Differentiation and its Applications (FDA) conference, he served and still serving as a member of TPC of several national and international conferences, organized several conferences and chaired many sessions.

Meriem Laleg is an associate professor in the division of Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering at KAUST. She joined KAUST in December 2010. From 2009 to 2010, she was working as a permanent research scientist at the French Institute for research in Computer Sciences and Control Systems (INRIA) in Bordeaux. She obtained her Ph.D in Applied Mathematics from INRIA Paris, in 2008.  She holds a Master in control systems and signal processing from University Paris 11 in France.  Her research interests include, modeling, estimation, and control of infinite dimensional systems including partial differential equations systems and fractional systems, and signal/image analysis. She considers applications in engineering and biomedical fields.

Omar Knio received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 1990 from MIT.  He held a postdoctoral associate position at MIT, before joining the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at Johns Hopkins University in 1991.  In 2011, he joined the Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Department at Duke University, where he also serves as Associate Director of the Center for Material Genomics.  In 2012, he was named the Edmund T. Pratt, Jr., Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Duke.  In 2013, he joined AMCS Program at KAUST, where he served as Deputy Director of the SRI Center for Uncertainty Quantification in Computational Science and Engineering.  He is the recipient of an Associated Western Universities Faculty Fellowship Award in 1996, a Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Award in 2003, an R&D100 Award in 2005, and a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the American University of Beirut in 2005.

Changpin Li earned his Ph D in computational mathematics from Shanghai University in 1998. After graduation, he worked in the same university and became a full professor in 2007.  His present research interests include: numerical methods and scientific computations of fractional partial differential equations, dynamics of fractional differential equations. He is on the editorial board of several journals such as Fractional Calculus and Applied Analysis, Int J Bifurcation Chaos, Int J Comput Math, and Chaos, etc. And he is the editor-in-chief of book series “Fractional Calculus in Applied Sciences and Engineering” in De Gruyter, Germany. He has published more than 100 papers in referred journals with more than 3000 citations. He has edited one book and published one book which have been published in World Scientific and CRC Press, respectively. He was awarded the Shanghai Natural Science Prize in 2010, Bao Steel Prize in 2011, Riemann-Liouville Award: Best FDA Paper (theory) in FDA’12 in 2012, and Scientific Chinese “Person of the Year 2015” in 2016.

Dr. Hassen M. Ouakad was born in Bizerte (Tunisia) in 1983. He received the B.Sc. degree, with honors, in Mechanics and Structures in 2007 from Tunisia Polytechnic School. In 2008, he received a master degree in Computational Mechanics from a joint graduate program between Tunisia Polytechnic School, Tunisia, and Virginia Tech, VA, USA. Then he joined the MEMS characterization and Motion Lab of the State University of New-York at Binghamton (NY, ISA), where he received the Ph.D. degree in 2010. In January 2011, he joined the Petroleum Engineering Department at the Texas A&M University in the Education City of Doha, State of Qatar, as a Postdoc Research Assistant. In September 2011, he joined the Mechanical Engineering Department of King Fahd University as an Assistant Professor. He got promoted to the rank of Associate Professor since April 2016.

Dr. Ouakad is the recipient of the 2010 Excellence in research award granted by the Watson School of the State University of New-York at Binghamton, NY, USA. He was also awarded both the excellence in teaching and the excellence in academic advising from the Engineering College of King Fahd University in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Dr. Ouakad holds two patent applications dealing with introducing new techniques for controlling the micro-contact printing in roll-to-roll processes. Furthermore, Dr. Ouakad developed numerical/experimental techniques to characterize miniaturized devices rely on non-parallel plates electric actuating fields. He authored and co-authored more than seventy scientific articles published in highly ISI ranked international journals and referred conference proceedings. His work has been cited more than 400 times and his H index is 12.

Dr. Ouakad is a member in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME). He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering (IJAME) since 2013 and serve in the editorial board of the journal of applied computational mechanics since 2016 and he has served on few scientific committees of national/international symposiums and conferences.
