Dr. Lahouari Ghouti
Dr. Lahouari Ghouti is an Assistant Professor of the Information and
Computer Science Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and
Minerals (KFUPM). He received his BSc (First Honors) from the
Algerian Institute of Telecommunications (AIT), Oran, Algeria in
1992, his MSc in Electrical Engineering Department at KFUPM
University in 1997 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Queen’s
University of Belfast (QUB), Belfast, UK in 2005.
He has several publications in the areas of Multimedia Security,
Biometrics, Forensics and Homeland Security that appeared in
International refereed Journals and Proceedings. He has seven (07)
pending US patent applications. Dr. Ghouti has been acting as a
Chair of several technical sessions on Multimedia Security,
Biometrics, Forensics and Homeland Security. Also, Dr. Ghouti
continues to provide consulting services to several Saudi private
academic institutions on the development of computing-related
academic programs. Also, he contributed to the development of a new
Graduate Program in Forensics and Computer Security at Queen’s
University of Belfast, UK. Dr. Ghouti is an active member of the
IEEE and IEE Institutes. The research interests of Dr. Ghouti
include watermarking technologies, information hiding, content
identification, multimedia security, biometrics, and signal/image
processing applications for forensic and homeland security.
Dr. Ghouti's interest into the field of information security,
biometrics and forensics began with his dissertation on the
copyright protection of multimedia content. He is currently
investigating various approaches to fuse multibiometric information
and the application of evidence theory and Bayesian networks to
forensic sciences. He has recently established a group of graduate
students working on various aspects of biometric and forensic
processing (palmprint, fingerprint, iris, biometric template
security and fusion of multimodal biometric information, etc.).
Dr. Ghouti has been the PI/Co-PI of projects funded by Government,
industry and academia in the last 10 years.
Dr. Ghouti has given several invited talks in Saudi Arabia, Europe
(UK and France), and Canada. He has co-supervised three (03) PhD
students and two (02) MEng students at Queen’s University of
Belfast, UK and one MSc student at KFUPM University. He serves as a
reviewer of several IEEE and IEE premier journals in his area and
has chaired two technical sessions in the IEE Visual Information
Engineering (VIE) Conference.
Dr. Ghouti has won the Best paper award at the First IEEE/AHS
Conference on Adaptive Hardware and System (AHS 2006) in Istanbul,
Turkey and the Bronze Medal for the Best Applied Research at King
Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in October 2005.
