Mr. Al-Naffouri's research work focuses on adaptive filter analysis and design. Adaptive algorithms are usually analyzed distinctly in the literature using a variety of approaches and assumptions. Mr. Al-Naffouri has extended our energy-based approach to adaptive filter analysis and design to new levels of sophistication and has derived performance results for a large class of filters with data and/or error nonlinearities in their update equations. His contributions subsume many earlier results and provide answers to some open questions in this field of study. Mr. Al-Naffouri's work has been recognized with a Best Student Paper Award at an international meeting in June 2001. Mr. Al-Naffouri's research has also focused on designing adaptive algorithms that are robust to noise and data uncertainties. He has recently been interested in OFDM transmission and has developed several algorithms for channel identification and tracking in OFDM.
