Administrative and Committee Work

  • University Committee

Elected Member, University Standing Committee: Faculty & Personnel Affairs Committee for Two years (2001–2002 & 2002-2003).

Member, Teaching Committee: Responsible for assisting in Teaching methods and facilities (2004- 2005).

Member, Web Resource Committee: Responsible for providing web resources, information technology tools, evaluating and designing college faculty home pages (2004-2005).

Chairmen/Coordinator

  1. Coordinator, Information Technology & Educational Aids Committee: Responsible for computers, web resources, department home page and faculty home pages and assisting faculty members in Teaching methods and facilities using IT (2004-2005).

  2. Chairman: Alumni Liaison/Chemistry Club Committee of the Department, responsible for generating database and establishing contacts with chemistry alumni. (2002-2003).

  3. Chairman: Safety Committee of the Chemistry Department, responsible for the safety requirements of all the teaching and research labs. Providing recommendations/suggestions for safe handling and storage of chemical liquid waste generated in the Laboratories (2000–2001).

  4.  Chairman: Seminar Organizing Committee, responsible for inviting distinguished Scientist and Researchers from different institution and organizations within the Kingdom and UK under the British Council sponsored visiting programs (1998 – 2000).

  5. Coordinator: A Lecture Series on Catalysis, successfully organized one-day seminar program, on December 6, 1998 at the Department of Chemistry, KFUPM. Two speakers from UK and others from the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, KFUPM have participated (1998 – 1999).

  1. Industrial Chemistry Division of the Chemistry Department (since 1994).

  2. Staff Application Evaluation Committee of the Chemistry Department, responsible for scrutinizing and assessing the qualification and experience of applicants seeking jobs in the Department of Chemistry at the ranks of Lab. Technicians, Chemists, Research Assistants, and Office Secretaries (1992 – 1993 and 1994 – 2000).

  3. Information Committee of the Chemistry Department, responsible for all activities relating to the department like providing or receiving information and preparing annual report for the department (1993 – 1994, 1999-2000,  2002 – 2003 and 2003-2004).

  4. Safety Committee of the Chemistry Department, responsible for the safety requirements of all the teaching and research labs. Providing recommendations/suggestions for the safe handling and storage of chemical liquid waste in the Laboratories (1990 – 1992).

  5. Chemistry Club, Departmental Committee, responsible for coordinating social and sports activities between Students and Faculty members (1988 – 1990).

Freshman Chemistry Textbook Evaluation Committee selected a new Textbook by Zumdahl  (1998-1999).

Lab Exemption Committee, evaluated the cut point grades for students repeating the courses but NOT labs for Chem. 101/102/201/20 (1995–1996)

Freshman Chemistry Textbook Evaluation Committee selected a new Textbook by Raymond Chang  (1994-1995).
